Reiging Champions Valkenswaard United powered to victory in the first leg of the Global Champions League after an electrifying second round which went down to the wire in Mexico City.
While fans enthusiastically packed the grandstands, dancing to the team theme music and cheering on their favourite combinations, many of the world’s best joined forces and once more took centre stage to decide the highly anticipated first round of the 15-leg Championship.

The 2017 Longines Global Champions Tour season kicked off with a phenomenal victory in Mexico City for the young Swiss star, Martin Fuchs, and his formidable stallion Chaplin – for whom this was his first CSI5* outdoor Grand Prix. The curtain went up on the hotly-anticipated championship series and the action was electrifying with fans on the edge of their seats as world class sport played out.

The second day of the Longines Global Champions Tour of Mexico City provided another thrilling day of world class action, as riders fought for the Trofeo Banorte in the build up to Saturday’s LGCT Grand Prix and the Global Champions League Final. Italian star Lorenzo de Luca (ITA) rocketed to the win with chestnut stallion Halifax van het Kluizebos after a high speed jump-off provided high octane sport and plenty of drama.

The 2017 Global Champions League season kicked off in style at the magificent venue of Mexico City as reigning Champions Valkenswaard United stormed to pole position ahead of Saturday’s final. Kick-starting the defence of their title off to the best possible start, Alberto Zorzi and Bertram Allen produced masterful clear rounds around a tough track to leave their team in prime position, securing the only team clear of the class.

As the highly anticipated Global Champions League season prepares to get underway the full team rider list for Mexico City can today be revealed. With each of the 18 teams selecting two riders for the first round of the GCL, Thursday’s class will be the first opportunity for teams to test the strength and depth of their field, as the 15-leg Championship kicks off in style.

As anticipation builds for what promises to be one of the most explosive and high octane LGCT and GCL years yet, the full rider list for the first leg of the 15-event Tour can today be revealed.

Zweite Etappe der Global Champions Tour führte nach Mittelamerika
Wie schon beim Auftakt der Global Champions Tour am vergangenen Wochenende in Miami (USA) war Christian Ahlmann (Marl) auch bei der zweiten Etappe der höchstdotierten Springsportserie bester deutscher Reiter. Mit Epleaser van’t Heike belegte er in Mexico-City den vierten Platz. Sieger der Prüfung wurde der Franzose Roger-Yves Bost.

The championship is accelerating following two nail-biting competitions in Miami Beach and Mexico City as teams chase points and prize money around the globe.
The ranking battle has intensified, with Monaco Aces the new leaders, just one point ahead of Shanghai Swans, who in turn are one point ahead of Miami Beach winners Valkenswaard United. Miami Glory and Antwerp Diamonds are currently tied in fourth, just a further point away from the top three. As the Championship heads to Antwerp for the first European leg, the stakes are raised for all the teams as the momentum of the new format builds.

Roger-Yves Bost (FRA) declared “today was my day” after winning an adrenaline-fuelled Grand Prix at the debut Longines Global Champions Tour in the vibrant Mexico City.
The experienced French speed demon fought off stiff competition from two youngsters – 20 year olds Jos Verlooy (BEL) and Bertram Allen (IRE) in the four-man jump off in the huge grass arena. It was an impressive debut for Mexico City on the championship circuit with a colourful fiesta atmosphere and a passionate crowd of tens of thousands enjoying world class equestrian show jumping. The winning riders were besieged by autograph hunters with the sport proving to be an instant hit in Mexico City.

Great Britain’s Scott Brash (GBR) rode a phenomenal win with Hello Forever in today’s feature class, the CSI5* 1.50m Massimo Dutti Trophy. “It was a very fast class I thought and you had to go for it from the first fence. But we hit everything right and he jumped fantastic,” Brash underlined the high calibre of sporting competition, saying: “The best horses and riders are at these sort of events so it’s great to get a win in any class.”
Friday’s CSI5* competition wrapped up with a fiercely competitive Trofeo Massimo Dutti in the stunning new Mexico City venue. A field of 44 riders took to the expansive grass arena, with a total of 14 jumping clear, representing 10 different nations and showcasing an exceptional international field.
