In a moment of pure sporting magic, the legendary stallion Casall ASK retired with a phenomenal Grand Prix win at the Longines Global Champions Tour in Hamburg.

The curtain came down on the final chapter in Casall ASK’s incredible career in the most extraordinary way, as the 18-year-old bay stallion exited the stage with a true Hollywood-style ending. Tens of thousands of emotional fans watched Casall ASK win the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in his home city of Hamburg before celebrating the horse’s retirement from professional show jumping.

Casall Ask sagt Tschüss mit einem Sieg

„Es ist ein historischer Moment im Reitsport, den wir nicht vergessen werden, ich wette, Steven Spielberg hat sich schon die Rechte an dieser tollen, emotionalen Geschichte gesichert“, fasste Harrie Smolders den Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Hamburg zusammen, in dem er selbst mit Don VHP Z zweiter wurde.

Besser hätte man das Drehbuch tatsächlich nicht schreiben können. 22.000 Zuschauer erlebten beim von J.J.Darboven präsentierten Deutschen Spring- und Dressur-Derby am Samstagnachmittag bei Kaiserwetter einen Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Hamburg, der unter die Haut ging. Protagonist war ein Holsteiner unter dem Sattel und ein in Schleswig-Holstein lebender Schwede im Sattel, der in der nordischen Pferdegemeinde eh adoptiert ist. Casall Ask und Rolf-Göran Bengtsson sind seit zwölf Jahren ein Paar, seit zehn Jahren sind sie im internationalen Springsport erfolgreich unterwegs – ohne Unterbrechung. Sie werden seit jeher gefeiert, wenn sie im Derby-Park einreiten, doch dieses Jahr sollte es etwas ganz Besonderes werden – es sollte das letzte Mal sein. In Hamburg sollte Casall Ask aus dem Sport verabschiedet werden. Zum letzten Mal den Großen Preis, zum letzten Mal eine Fünf-Sterne-Prüfung gehen – gesund, topfit und 18 Jahre alt.

The ice cool duo came into the final round in pole position and, as some of the other teams cracked under pressure, Scott and Denis were the only ones to jump four clear rounds over two days of thrilling team jumping.

The formidable duo of Scott Brash and new recruit Denis Lynch for Miami Glory rocketed the team into pole position ahead of Saturday’s Global Champions League of Hamburg final, putting the team in prime position to earn valuable ranking points and continue their Championship fight.

Thousands of fans packed the grandstand and filled the grassy banks in the sunshine, delighting in top sport as the 18 teams took to the track to battle it out as the team series kicks up a gear. So far this season Valkenswaard United have ruled the overall ranking battle with 88 points, but the fight for the top has intensified as the home team Hamburg Diamonds sit just 7 points away on 81 overall. Just two points behind on 79 are the St Tropez Pirates, with the teams pulling out heavy-weight duos for the fifth round in the 15-leg Championship.

As the 2017 Global Champions League accelerates, two superstars of show jumping give an insight into how they are plotting a path to glory and which team will take the final podium win.

Round five of the 15-leg Championship will see the teams field their squad in Hamburg, Germany, with the list of Round 1 riders revealed today. Kicking off on Thursday 25th May at 14:15 local time, the teams will fight for pole position and a clear score before re-evaluating their players ahead of Saturday’s final. Taking place at 13:20 local time, teams have the opportunity to interchange team members and / or horses following the result of Round 1, meaning tactics and strategy become all the more important in the battle for valuable ranking points.

Fresh from their triumph in Madrid – with an impressive clean scoresheet as the only team to jump two double clears – the formidable pair of Ludger Beerbaum and Marco Kutscher will be back in action for the team in Hamburg and have a laser-like focus on winning the GCL crown, and some serious prize money. In Madrid they faced down a brave challenge from Hamburg Diamonds speed ace Eric Lamaze and Fine Lady. Heavyweight team combinations from the highest levels of show jumping will now have Cannes Stars in the their sights, ensuring a turbo-charged race to the finish line in Qatar in November.

Christian Ahlmann führt Global Champions Tour weiter an

Ludger Beerbaum und Casello haben den Großen Preis beim Deutschen Spring- und Dressur-Derby in Hamburg und somit die fünfte Etappe der Global Champions Tour gewonnen. Drei weitere deutsche Paare erreichten nach zwei Umläufen das Stechen. Christian Ahlmann, der die Gesamtwertung der Tour anführt, wurde mit Codex One Fünfter, mit Rang vier rutschten Marcus Ehning und Pret a Tout knapp am Podium vorbei. Daniel Deußer und First Class van Eeckelghem wurden Siebte.

It was a fairytale ending to a stunning weekend of top sport in Germany, as four-time Olympic Gold medallist Ludger Beerbaum (GER) took a sensational win with his new horse Casello 2 in front of a sell-out crowd at the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Hamburg. Fresh from the podium, a delighted Ludger said: „It was a little bit like Leicester winning the Premier League!

„It is very very special to win [in Germany], and if I could have a wish from the 15 legs, it would be to win here. Everyone has experienced today the atmosphere – it’s really something very special, and believe me, I’m more than happy and really enjoying this moment.”

Valkenswaard United’s formidable duo of John Whitaker (GBR) and Bertram Allen (IRL) rocketed up the Global Champions League team rankings after a stunning win today in Hamburg. This was the first time two teams finished on a score of zero and the temperature rose as the riders’ combined time came into play to determine the final order providing a fascinating nail-biting finish to the 1.55m two round competition. Valkenswaard United now sit on 130 points overall, with Monaco Aces on 119 points and Antwerp Diamonds close behind on 116 points overall.
