Set against the backdrop of the breath-taking turquoise ocean, the world’s best wowed the crowds in a stunning display of top sport and entertainment, with the grandstand at full capacity to witness the Belgian rider achieve his dream of winning an LGCT Grand Prix. Speaking about the significance of today’s result Jerome said: “The Global is the biggest show in the world, the best riders in the world, the best riders are here and to have a victory here – every rider wants to win one time in his life a victory like today.”

In an incredible turn of events, London Knights‘ Kent Farrington and teammate Ben Maher overtook leading team Valkenswaard United in a dramatic upset in the Global Champions League Final. After only two events, the fight for the coveted title is already super competitive and tactical with team riders and trainers strategising to get an early advantage in the championship. Talking about the GCL and the new format, top American rider and World No2 Kent said: “I think it’s really exciting what Jan is doing for the sport – he’s started the Global Champions Tour  years ago, and it’s been evolving ever since. I think the team competition is the latest evolution of his vision for big sport. We can already see big changes from last year – I’m really excited to be a part of it and it’s a great way to showcase our sport here in Miami Beach.”
Valkenswaard United made their Championship title intentions clear with another incredible display of teamwork and skill in the first round of the Global Champions League of Miami Beach. Bertram Allen and Alberto Zorzi put in a perfect performance to ensure their team would be on pole heading into Saturday’s final, breaking away from the rest of the field as the only combination to jump double clear.
As the Global Champions League heads to the spectacular destination of Miami Beach, the team rider list for the 2nd leg of the 15-event Championship can today be revealed. With a star-studded line up, and unique rider combinations, the 18 strong grid of teams will kick off the next leg of the Championship on the breath-taking shores of Miami Beach for another weekend of top sport and entertainment.
A formidable eight out of the world’s top ten ranked riders, including all of the top five, will head to the breath-taking destination of Miami Beach for the second leg in the 2017 Longines Global Champions Tour season. Home hero and World Number 1 McLain Ward (USA) will lead the star-studded field to the highly anticipated venue, alongside World Number 2 and fellow American Kent Farrington (USA) and World Number 3, Daniel Deusser (GER).

Am Strand von Miami Beach im US-Bundestaat Florida feierte die Global Champions Tour ihren Saisonauftakt. Bei der ersten der insgesamt 15 Etappen ritt Christian Ahlmann (Marl) auf Platz drei. Es siegte die Australierin Edwina Tops-Alexander.
Beim Auftakt der weltweit höchst dotierten Springserie Global Champions Tour (GCT) gingen 50 Reiterinnen und Reiter, unter ihnen auch fünf Deutsche, an den Start. Die mit 500.000 US-Dollar Preisgeld (knapp 440.000 Euro) üppig ausgestattete Prüfung gewann die Australierin Edwina Tops-Alexander mit der Holsteinerin Lintea Tequila.
Global Champions League blasted off in 2016 in Miami Beach with a knife edge victory for the dynamic duo of John Whitaker (GBR) and Bertram Allen (IRL) in team Valkenswaard United.
It was a dazzling launch for the thrilling new competition format as some of the world’s top riders became team mates for the first time, propelling show jumping into a new era. Riders, fans and guests hailed the debut and spoke of its importance for the future of the sport.
Dutch champion Harrie Smolders, who jumped two clear rounds for team Antwerp Diamonds who are now in second place, said: “I think we saw some exciting sport and I think the Global has already done so much for our sport. They deserve our support and we are all going to make this into a successful story.”

At sunrise in Miami Beach team riders were out preparing for the first showdown of the 2016 GCL season with athletes – both human and equine – sporting their stunning new team colours with specially created logos.
Early morning passers by saw riders from the Monaco Aces and Doha Fursan Qatar limbering up on the sands of the iconic destination. The hotly-anticipated competition will feature two rounds with 12 teams starting in the first round and the best 8 teams going into the crucial second round.
Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS) and her feisty 13 year old bay mare Lintea Tequila rode a stunning class to claim the top spot in the 2016 Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Miami Beach. Set against the backdrop of the iconic Miami Beach, equestrian enthusiasts and beach-goers packed the grandstand and lined the arena to watch the stars of show jumping battle it out as the 2016 season got underway.
International guests included Elle Macpherson, Sir Michael Caine, business tycoon and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Senator Marco Rubio, and singer Iggy Azalea. The event is fast becoming a prestigious fixture on the local calendar with hundreds of guests, business leaders, and high class personalities enjoying chic hospitality and spectacular ocean views.
Daniel Deusser (GER) stole the show in today’s prestigious American Invitational CSI5* feature class with his beautiful bay gelding, the 13 year old Clintop 2. The exhilarating jump-off saw the top three riders cross the line all within sixth tenths of a second of each other, and all three clearing the field a full two seconds ahead of everyone else. As the sun began to set behind the iconic Miami Beach skyline, 47 of the world’s best horse and rider combinations took to the sand arena lined by enthusiastic spectators and fans. The picture perfect setting made for breath-taking images as the 1.50/1.55m class was streamed live around the world.
